Opening Quotes:
"If I have seen further it is by standing on ye shoulders of Giants."-- Isaac Newton.
....for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under tyrannical dominion. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself. -- Adapted from the Declaration of Arbroath, 1320.
"For we have faith in Scotland's hidden powers, the present's theirs but all the past and future's ours." ~ Scottish poet Hugh MacDiarmid

Words of wisdom from the ages.
For 25 years I drove commercial trucks.
Class A Commercial Driver's License, Endorsements: XTPM
Driving approximately 1.7 million miles. (more than most people accomplish in two lifetimes)X - Combination of Tank Vehicle and Hazardous Materials. T - Double/Triple Trailers. P - Passenger. M - motorcycle. If it could legally operate on the public right-of-way, I was licensed to drive it. My driving experience began in 1956 when at the age of six my father had me steering a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup truck between the rows of hay on our farm.
After 23 years of experience pulling vans, flat beds, low boys, tankers and reefers I finished my career with 2 years in a Freightliner FLD 120 & a Manac 5 legger at a GWVR of 121,000 lbs (60+ tons). A 30 wheeler on 8 axles.
"Nearly every person in the industrialized nations has an opinion about trucks and the men and women who drive them. Some good, some bad and many just plain indifferent. The truth is that a nation cannot become industrialized without an efficient transportation system and unless you are willing to put up with having railroad tracks to every store in town, trucks are by far the most efficient means possible." -- Keith A. Hamblin

IF YOU'VE GOT IT,
A TRUCKER BROUGHT IT SAFELY
Trucks I've Driven Hank's Truck Pictures Do not cut in front of trucks. "No matter how big you are, how bad you are, how rich you are, how smart you are, how dumb you are, how young you are, or how old you are you will die with 80,000 lbs on top of you." ~ The Truckers' Report
I drove well over one million accident free miles during my career. "Accidents don't just happen, they are caused by not paying attention and by not thinking of what can go wrong before it goes wrong."
I make no claim of being a perfect driver but, I've had enough experience to recognise risky and disruptive driving behaviour, confusing signposts, and inconsistent or missing lane markings when I see them. Too many communities demand prior knowledge to courteously and safely negogiate their streets and roads.
With that in mind I've finally created my 'At Risk Driving' page, where I will endeavour to list vehicles and locations NOT conducive to the safe and smooth flow of traffic.
Notes If driving with two hands on the wheel is absolutely safer, as all UK police officers insist at every opportunity, why aren't automatic transmissions encouraged?
"Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households." ~ CIA - The World Factbook 2010 -- United States - Economy - overview
